  11. I've noticed that ZyXEL has been the subject of quite a few harsh
  12. comments in this conference lately, so I'd like to add my personal
  13. experience. I used to have an old U1496B that I was very pleased with.
  14. Last September I took advantage of the upgrade offer and bought an
  15. Elite 2864 that came with BIOS ver 1.04 I wasn't quite happy with this
  16. version for a number of reasons (among them odd pauses in the
  17. transmission of data at unpredictable intervals) and successive BIOS
  18. versions unfortunately had problems handshaking with Norwegian versions
  19. of USR modems. However, version 1.12 seems to have fixed these problem
  20. and the Elite 2864 is now an excellent product, I think. Alas, one week
  21. ago my power supply suddenly gave up. So I had to borrow a USR V34
  22. Sportster and sent a message to ZyXEL USA and Taiwan. On receipt of my
  23. message ZyXEL USA immediately shipped a replacement power supply by
  24. Federal Express, all expenses paid. That's what I call service, and
  25. that's one of the reasons I think ZyXEL is a lot better than the
  26. general feedbeck in this conference might have indicated. Now I'm up and
  27. running again using my Elite 2864 which incidentally gives me
  28. consistently higher cps throughput as reported by Zap-O-Comm, compared
  29. to an USR V34 Sportster.

  31. Now, if only ZyXEL would match or improve on the V34 plus "standard"
  32. in an upcoming BIOS version........
